BEAUTIFUL KAUA'I
Kaua'i is one of the eight main
islands in the Hawaiian Island chain. We Kaua'ians say "Kaua'i
is the HEART of the Pacific Ocean." This is because of the location
and the shape of the island, but also because of the "Aloha
nui loa" (very open heart) of the island people.
KAUA'I POW WOW COUNCIL
Our purpose is:
The promotion of cultural and family values through exchange and education
in an alcohol/drug-free environment.
To provide an educational outreach to local school children and teachers, K-12
schools
and universities.
The development of Kaua'i-based events for family and visitors to our island.
Exchange of Native American Indian cultures and traditions with the Native
Hawaiian culture and population, along with other local cultures.
We are a 501(c)3 organization completely made up of
volunteers. The Board of Directors as well as many
members of the
Kaua'i Pow Wow Council (KPC), represent many Native
American Indian Nations as well as the Native Hawaiian
Nation.
KPC offers a place for unity to the Native American
Indian Community. We hold monthly meetings and are
involved in many community events and educational projects
throughout
the year. We also travel inter-island to participate
in other pow wows that occur twice a year.
Our main event is the ANNUAL Pow Wow in the month
of October every year since 1997 (with the
exception of 2001). This event also includes an educational
and cultural
outreach
program
offered to the entire population of school-aged
children on the island of Kaua'i.
Elections were held and there are new members of the
2007 Board of Directors which will be carrying on the
mission and
goals of the Kaua'i Pow Wow Council! Look for
upcoming news about the new Board
Members and what is planned for ongoing community
support for this organization.
